THE AUDACITY TO DREAM

The Audacity To Dream

The world's become noisy, disruptive and complex -
Unplug, slow down and indulge in the simple.
Do not equate busy with fulfilled;
Haste robs us of the time to enjoy the moment.

Don't be a slave to money, power or your past.
Few things are black and white, learn to discern the shades.
Seek truth; its absence is akin to darkness.
Be curious, be creative. Entice your muse daily.
Do not confuse religion with spirituality;
The latter transcends the former.

Nourish all your senses; connect with the wonders around you.
The spectator's experience is not equal to that of the gladiator - be the gladiator.

Be open to opportunities, missed ones become regrets.
Never take tomorrow for granted - it is not guaranteed.
Compete only with yourself and do not obsess with success -
Competition has the inherent setback of undeservedly creating losers.

Let children be children - do not the rush them to be otherwise.
Take an interest in your child's interests; do not teach apathy.
Expand the village raising your child -
The gift of the extended family is vicarious experience, love and community.
Humanity is a diverse family; embrace difference.
Develop widespread interests, opinions and friendships.
Avoid class and the arrogance of pedigree.

Accept that all your beliefs are incomplete; do not hold them rigidly.

Value morality and commonsense over rules.
Beware: celebrity culture undermines your self-worth.
Do not obsess about physical beauty;
Take it as a given that you are beautiful.
Take note: the corporate media thrives on peddling fear and propaganda.
Sidestep the empty promises of consumerism -
Happiness is not the product of more.
Gratitude is the saviour of the soul.

Sleep more, play more, laugh more.

Gossip and jealousy are petty and destructive.
The things you consider beneath you are the things most likely to make you a better person.

Live above self-interest;
Look to help those who could never repay you.
If you are a glass-half-empty person, top up your glass.
Consider handicaps and setbacks tests of character.
Arm yourself only with humour;
Succumb only to love;
Don't ever accept what is;
Believe in and strive for a better world.
